Section 4: Contempt

Article 433-5

(Law n ° 96-647 of July 22, 1996 art. 17 Official Journal of July 23, 1996)

Words, gestures or threats, writings or images of any kind not made public or the sending of any objects addressed to a person in charge of a public service mission constitute an contempt punishable by a fine of 50,000 F. the exercise or on the occasion of the exercise of its mission, and likely to undermine its dignity or the respect due to the function with which it is invested.
When it is addressed to a person holding public authority, contempt is punishable by six months’ imprisonment and a fine of 50,000 F.
When it is committed in a meeting, the contempt provided for in the first paragraph is punishable by six months’ imprisonment and a fine of 50,000 F, and the contempt provided for in the second paragraph is punishable by one year of imprisonment and 100,000 F fine.
