European law, also known as Community law, is the set of legal rules applicable within the European Union. The rules of Community law apply to the European institutions, to the Member States, as well as to individuals and companies, in the fields of competence of the EU.

These rules of law aim to develop a Community legal order allowing the achievement of the Community’s objectives.
