Provisions of the Civil Code concerning marriage Title V of Book I

Marriage creates obligations between the spouses which are defined by the civil code: the spouses owe each other fidelity, help and assistance.

Marriage also creates obligations which fall under the matrimonial regime which determines the fate of the patrimony during the marriage and after separation, divorce or death.

The spouses can choose a regime by a marriage contract which must be passed before a notary, failing which the legal regime applies.
