About
About Wilmington University Farnan School of Law
Wilmington University Farnan School of Law is a private, nonprofit law school within Wilmington University. The university announced the school in October 2022 after years of planning; Judge Joseph J. Farnan Jr., a former U.S. Attorney for Delaware and federal district judge, had advanced the idea in 2019. The school welcomed its inaugural day and evening classes on August 21, 2023. In February 2025, the American Bar Association granted provisional approval, before the inaugural class graduated in May 2026. The school adopted its current name on May 1, 2026, honoring Farnan’s service to the university since 1970 and his role in establishing the law school.
Since January 2026, classes have been held in a three-story, 52,000-square-foot building on the Brandywine Campus at 30 Beaver Valley Road. The facility includes six classrooms, law library and law review space, private study areas, and two courtrooms modeled on Delaware’s federal district and state courts. First-year students must participate in a mentor program that pairs them with legal professionals, while the J.D. curriculum requires every subject tested on the NextGen Bar Exam, reinforcing the school’s emphasis on bar readiness and practical preparation.
